The Maryland Lottery has awarded another lottery win to "Momma Dukes," a healthcare worker from Salisbury, Maryland. Note that "Momma Dukes" is just the name the lucky woman wanted to identify herself with for anonymity reasons.
The humble United States citizen didn't need much to win the lottery ticket. She bought a $30 "$100,000 Lucky" scratch card at Thirsty's on Snow Hill Road in Salisbury. While Momma Dukes and her husband were at Thirsty's, she noticed an unclaimed "$100,000 Lucky" ticket and her luck.
Commenting on the win, the lucky winner explained:
"It was the last ticket on the roll. No one wanted it, so we decided to take it."
Without delay, she decided to take a chance and scratched off the ticket at the store. She immediately recognized that she had won a lot of money for the second time from a ticket purchased at the same store. When she saw one of the matching numbers on her first line, Momma Dukes was so amazed, shouting "SURPRISE" to the store clerk. The Eastern Shore woman has a long history of lottery success. In 2018, she won a $100,000 jackpot playing "Diamond 10s" in another scratch card game.
The lottery operator sold off all scratch cards that won the lottery and will receive a $1,000 bonus for their efforts. In September 2021, the lucky game with a grand prize of $100,000 went on sale. Momma Duke's win is the 33rd grand prize winner of the lottery game, with 32 awards offering up to $5,000.
It seems like Maryland has a knack for creating lottery winners lately. This is after Constance Benny, a Baltimore native, won $50,000 on a "Big Money" scratch card ticket.
The lucky winner who celebrated her 60th birthday won the prize after purchasing the ticket at Giant on York Road in Timonium. The winner said she went to buy cat food and dinner when she decided to scratch off the ticket. While collecting her ticket on May 4, Benny remarked:
"I didn't believe it until I came down here."
