Harrow Wins, the local lottery initiative designed to support community groups and charities within Harrow, is celebrating a significant achievement this month. Since its inception, it has successfully raised £64,675, marking a substantial contribution to the area's social and community projects. In light of this celebration, a special prize draw has been announced, promising exciting rewards for participants.
Launched in 2019 through a collaboration between the Council and Harrow Giving, Harrow Wins has now reached its fifth year of operation, growing to support 77 different charities and community organizations. The initiative has become a vital funding source, allowing groups to enhance their services and offset losses from other funding avenues.
Marilyn Norman from Mind in Harrow highlighted the significance of the funds, noting the organization's critical role as the only mental health helpline and information service in the area. Similarly, Duncan Wakeling from the 13th Roxeth Scout Group praised the lottery for the minimal effort required for participation and the significant benefits it has brought to their activities, including sailing and camping events.
Cllr Jean Lammiman, the Cabinet member for Community and Culture, emphasized the challenge of raising core funds for community groups and the difference the lottery makes. She encouraged more local groups to take advantage of this platform to support their activities and continue their essential work within the community.
With 77 groups currently benefiting from Harrow Wins, there's an open invitation for more local causes, including school PTAs and Scout and Guide groups, to join this free initiative. The lottery not only offers a chance to win a weekly top prize of £25,000 but also ensures that 60p from every £1 ticket directly supports local causes, making a tangible difference in the Harrow community.
